One big gift, twelve people, no spreadsheet

Twelve people want to join forces. Instead of twelve small things there is to be one item nobody buys on their own. Until now that meant: one person pays up front, keeps a list of names and amounts, and chases people for weeks.

This is the most honest occasion on the site, because it also says what does not work. A gift registry is not a cash book. What it can do is make the wish divisible – and that is enough for most group gifts.

Why here of all places

What breaks about paying up front and collecting

The problem with a group gift is never the gift but the procedure around it.

One person pays up front
And carries the risk if two never pay. It is usually always the same person
The list of amounts
Who has paid, who has not, who transferred 20 instead of 25. That is bookkeeping, not a gift
Nobody sees the state
How many are still missing? Only the person keeping the list – and they get asked constantly
For your shop
In the end one person buys. One purchase, eleven people who never entered your shop

Through shares everybody buys for themselves. Twelve orders instead of one, twelve customers instead of one – and nobody has to advance money or chase it.

The list itself

One wish with twelve shares

This is what it looks like when a big item is divided through the quantity wished for. The price is the price of a share, not the total.

WishQuantityPrice per shareState
Share of the gas barbecue1265.00 € each5 of 12 available
Barbecue tool set149.00 €Gifted
Barbecue gloves224.00 € each1 of 2 available
Barbecue book132.00 €Currently reserved

Twelve times 65 € makes the 780 € for the barbecue. The guest sees "5 of 12 still available" and knows without asking how far the group has got. Whoever wants to give more takes two shares.

What this occasion turns on

What the plugin cannot do here

This page would be dishonest if it left this section out.

No collecting amounts
The plugin keeps no account and settles nothing. There is no pot to pay into
No remainder
If three shares are left at the end, the wish stays partly taken. The plugin buys nothing to top it up
The route through shares
Works because every share is a normal order. Twelve orders make one gift
The route through a voucher
A voucher from your range, entered several times. The recipient redeems it themselves and buys what they like

Whoever wants to collect and settle real amounts of money needs a voucher product or a service for it. Here the list only makes sure that everybody is talking about the same gift – and that everybody can see how far along it is.

What you set up for it

Quantities and reservation

Only the two together make a group gift workable.

Quantity wished for
The owner enters it on the wish. Twelve people, twelve shares
Allow reserving
So that the people involved can talk it over before any money moves
Gift options
A greeting card for everyone to sign can be booked on top as an option
No date needed
A group gift grows until it is full. Without a date the list runs indefinitely

Common questions

Can you collect money with a gift registry?

Not as an amount of money. What works: a wish with a high quantity where everybody takes a share, or a voucher from your range as a wish. Settling amounts is something the plugin cannot do.

What is the simplest way to organise a group gift?

Enter the big wish with the number of people as the quantity. Everybody takes a share, and the list shows everyone how many are still missing.

What does one share cost?

As much as the product divided by the number of shares. The price is on the wish; nothing has to be worked out.

Do the people involved see who has already paid?

They see how many shares are taken. Names only appear where the giver did not want to stay anonymous.

Can a share be reserved?

Yes, if the shop allows reserving. That helps with talking it over before anybody buys.

What if shares are left over in the end?

The wish stays partly taken and visibly open for others. Whoever wants to takes the rest.

Does this work for a gift the shop does not sell?

Yes, as a wish outside the shop. One person takes it over and looks after it; for the others it is then marked as taken.
