Twelve children are invited, and their parents hardly know Finn

Finn is turning eight and celebrates on Saturday, 14 November with twelve children from his class. The invitation goes out through the parents' chat. They know Finn from pick-up time but not his wishes, and they usually spend between 15 and 25 €. Whatever they buy, their child wraps up and brings along to the party.

Unlike the milestone birthday, the list here is not kept by the person celebrating but by his parents. And the givers are not relatives but other parents who barely know one another.

Why here of all places

The givers do not know the child

Within the family a list helps. With parents who only know Finn from pick-up time, it replaces what they would otherwise have: the group chat.

The chat

Twelve times "What would Finn like?", twelve answers at different times, and in the end the same card game lies on the table twice

The budget

Almost everything on the list costs between 9.99 and 24.90 €. Anyone who wants to give more takes a share in the big wish

No account

The guests' parents order as guests. They only need a customer account to reserve a wish

The parents keep the list

Finn has no customer account, his mother does. She creates the list, and the list only says "Finn"

For you as the shop that is up to twelve orders from families who did not know your shop before, and each of them has a child with a birthday every year.

The list itself

Eleven wishes, almost all under 25 €

Finn wrote the list with his mother. An extract, as the guests' parents see it on their phones.

Two rows do not explain themselves. The comic series carries the note "Finn already has volumes 1 to 3", so that nobody buys the wrong volume. The voucher at 20 € with quantity 4 is the big construction set that several families share, as with the group gift.

What this occasion turns on

Every child hands over their own present

At a wedding the parcel should go to the couple. At a kids' party it belongs in the guest's hands, because handing it over is half the fun for the children.

To the giver

The choice in the Recipient tab. Every order goes to the family that places it; nobody needs an address from Finn's parents

What the guests read at the top

That the presents come to their own address and are handed over in person

Wrapped by the shop

Gift options apply here too. With gift wrapping the jigsaw arrives at the guest's family ready wrapped

This choice has a second consequence that kids' birthdays often need: lists that deliver to the giver can be ordered together.

Two invitations, one order

When two children from the class celebrate in November

Lina is invited to Finn's party and two weeks later to Mia's. Her mother wants to order both presents in one evening, in one order.

Two lists in the cart

If both lists deliver to the giver, they may go into one order together, plus products of her own such as wrapping paper

A note per present

Above every line it says who the present is for and that it comes to the person ordering

Two messages

At the checkout the card asks "Who are the gifts from?" and offers a field of its own per list: "Message to Finn (optional)" and "Message to Mia (optional)"

What applies

A list that delivers directly to the hosts with the address hidden is ordered on its own. An order has only one delivery address

Finn's and Mia's parents each get an entry of their own in their thank-you notes, with the message meant for their child.

What you set up for it

One theme ships with the plugin

For a kids' birthday you hardly have to do anything. The "Birthday" theme is one of the three that ship, and the parents choose the delivery themselves.

Theme "Birthday"

Ships with the plugin and is active. It colours Finn's list and the checkout in the same tone

Allow reserving

On by default. A mother who wants to talk to her child first holds the wish for three days this way

Gift wrapping

As a gift option with a surcharge. It sits on every gift line, even when the parcel goes to the giver

How the guests' parents see the list and what the cart tells them is in the chapter Gifting.

Common questions

How do parents create a birthday registry for kids?

In their own customer account: create a list, the child's first name as the display name, "Birthday" as the theme, "To the giver" as the delivery. Then wishes from your range go on, with quantity and, where needed, a note. The parents share the link with the invitation or in the class chat.

Do the other parents need a customer account?

Not to buy; they order as guests. They only need an account if they want to reserve a wish first and buy it later. Anyone who gives while logged in follows the list automatically afterwards and finds it again in their own account.

Where is a present delivered?

If the list is set to "To the giver", to the family that buys it. Their child wraps it and hands it over at the party. Nobody needs the hosts' address for that.

Can presents for two kids' birthdays be bought in one order?

Yes, if both lists deliver to the giver. The cart shows for each present who it is for, and at the checkout there is a message field of its own for each list. A list that delivers directly to the hosts, on the other hand, is ordered on its own.

How do several parents chip in on a bigger present?

Through a voucher with a quantity. The big construction set is on the list as a 20 € voucher with quantity 4, and each family takes one or two shares. The list counts along until all four are taken.

Does Finn's list need the surprise guard?

Usually not. Finn's parents keep the list, and they may see what has been bought. The guard is meant for lists the recipient keeps themselves, such as for a milestone birthday.
