Much of it small, some of it threefold

The Sommer family is expecting a child at the end of October. The list comes about weeks beforehand and looks different from every other one on this site: it is made almost entirely of small things, and of most of them you need more than one. Bodysuits in three sizes, changing mats, muslin cloths. Among them a single big wish.

On top of that comes something expectant parents weigh differently from a couple getting married. The circle is larger and looser: colleagues, neighbours, half the circle of acquaintances. Giving those people your own address is out of the question for many.

Why here of all places

Quantities are the real problem here

At a wedding every wish is on the list once. With a baby it is on there five times, and that is exactly where any arrangement by message falls apart.

Without a list
"I will take bodysuits", somebody writes into the group. How many? Which size? Two others read it and hold back, although three are still missing
With a list
The wish says "2 of 5 still available". Everybody takes what they like without asking, and the count adds up afterwards
The big wish
The pram is on the list once. Whoever takes it sees at once that it is gone – that is the purchase you really do not want twice
The address
Stays hidden although delivery goes straight there. Otherwise the parcels travel to somebody else first and then across town

The list itself

Twenty-seven wishes, thought of in quantities

An extract from the list as the guests see it. The quantity column is the important one here.

The pram shows what reserving is for: the godmother holds it while she talks it over with her partner. If the deadline passes without her buying, it becomes free again by itself. And the wooden name comes from a workshop, not from your shop – it is on the list anyway so that nobody orders it twice.

What this occasion turns on

Masked delivery, and what may go in the parcel

Here address masking is not one advantage among several but the condition for the list being shared at all.

What the giver sees
Only the family's display name. No name, no street, no town
What stays real
The country and an empty postcode, so that shipping and tax remain correct
The exception
If the recipient's country differs from the shipping country, nothing is masked – otherwise a tax side channel would open
Delivery note yes, invoice no
The invoice carries the giver with name and address. If it is in the parcel, the anonymity is gone. The delivery note may go along

How that works in detail is in the chapter Shipping to the list owner.

What you set up for it

Three places that count here

With a baby registry almost everything hangs on the quantity and on the address.

Address masking
On out of the box. The wording of the placeholder lines is your decision
Allow reserving
So that a big wish can be held without being bought right away
Reminders
A note before the date brings in the latecomers. Which mails run is your decision
No date needed
The due date is enough. Whoever sets none has a list that carries on after the birth as well

Common questions

How do I create a baby registry in Shopware?

As a customer in the customer account: create a list, pick a display name, enter the date and add products from the shop. The shop operator does not have to do anything for it beyond setting the plugin up once.

Can several guests give the same wish?

Yes, through the quantity wished for. If a bodysuit is on the list five times, every guest takes as many as they like, and the list shows what is left.

Do the guests see the parents' address?

No. Delivery goes straight to them, but the address is masked; the giver only sees the display name. The country and an empty postcode stay real, so that shipping and tax remain correct.

What about gifts the shop does not sell?

The family enters them as a wish of their own, optionally with a link to another retailer. A guest takes it over so that nobody gets it twice.

Can the list carry on after the birth?

Yes. Only the date entered ends the acceptance. Whoever sets none has a list without a fixed date.

Do the parents learn who gave what?

Yes, as long as the giver did not want to stay anonymous. Through the thank-you notes they say thank you without e-mail addresses being exchanged.
