Setting up
The plugin brings an assistant that walks through everything that should be settled before the first list. This page goes through it step by step and says at each one what actually matters.
Where everything lives
Three places the plugin shows up
The daily work and the base settings sit apart. That is deliberate: settings apply per sales channel, the lists themselves do not.
- Customers → Gift lists
- The working area: dashboard, all lists, reservations, orders, moderation, thank-you notes, and the configuration of themes, gift options and the word filter
- Extensions → Configuration
- The settings of the plugin, separate per sales channel
- On the customer account
- A tab of its own with that customer's lists
The wizard itself sits at the very bottom of the submenu under System. You can call it again at any time; everything it sets can also be changed later in the settings.
The wizard, step by step
1. Purchase detection
The most important step, and the only one the wizard verifies itself. Two order states decide when a wish counts as given and when it becomes free again.
- A wish counts as bought at
- Completed out of the box. Only with this state does the wish disappear from the list for good
- The check
- Below the field it says how many orders of the last ninety days ever reached that state. If it says zero, no wish will ever count as given
- A wish is released again at
- Cancelled out of the box
- A reservation expires after
- 14 days. Until then the wish is blocked for others but does not yet count as given. 0 means no expiry
With prepayment or long payment terms, set the deadline higher. Otherwise the wish becomes free again while the money is still on its way, and a second guest buys it a second time.
2. The giver's anonymity
How a giver appears who explicitly wanted to stay anonymous when buying.
- Where it applies
- Only where the owner would otherwise see the giver: in the thank-you notes
- Never visible
- The giver's mail address, under any setting
3. What givers may do
Two rights you can grant on top. Both are off to begin with.
- Reserving without buying
- A guest holds a wish for themselves without buying it right away. Only for logged-in customers, never for guests, with a deadline of its own
- Own products alongside gifts
- Whether a cart may carry gifts and the buyer's own purchases at the same time
With a mixed cart the effect depends on the list. If the list delivers to the owner, an order has exactly one delivery address, and that is the masked one of the recipient. The self-added products then go to them as well, never to the giver. The cart points that out on every line, and each owner has to agree to it per list. If the list delivers to the giver, nothing changes, because everything goes to them anyway.
4. Appearance in the shop
Where customers come across the gift registries, and which accent colour the areas carry that belong to no single list.
- Product page
- A button below the buying area, as soon as the customer has a list
- Cart
- A button on every cart line, as soon as the customer has a list
- Accent colour
- Three preview tiles to choose from. It applies to everything that belongs to no list; a single list gets its colour from its theme
5. and 6. Themes and gift options
Two lists the wizard only shows so that you know they exist. They are created and changed in the submenu under Configuration.
- Theme
- Gives a list its accent colour and symbol. The customer picks it while creating the list
- Gift option
- An extra the giver books at checkout, such as wrapping paper or a greeting card, on request for a surcharge
7. The share link
A gift registry is reachable through a short link. You set the prefix, the owner picks the readable part after it.
- Shape
/wishlist/anna-and-ben – prefix and short name
- Preview
- The wizard shows the finished address while you type
- Search engines
- These links are never indexed
Fix the prefix before the first list is shared. Change it later and every link already sent breaks – on invitations, in messages, everywhere.
8. Shipping to the list owner
The step that explains address masking. The wizard puts the real address and what the giver sees side by side.
- What stays real
- Country and empty postcode. Everything else is replaced by placeholders whose wording you set
- What the giver sees
- The display name of the list instead of a name and address
- The exception
- If the recipient's country differs from the shipping country, nothing is masked – that would otherwise open a tax side channel
- Delivery note
- The real address may appear on it, but only if the note stays strictly internal
Delivery note yes, invoice no. Masked gifts go to the owner. If the invoice were in the parcel, they would know the giver's name and address.
9. Mails
The plugin sends in the name of your shop. Two switches decide whether it may at all.
- Notification to the owner
- As soon as a wish is marked or given
- Reminder mails
- The date, a reservation running out, a reminder to say thank you
- Wording
- All mails run through the Flow Builder and are freely adjustable there
10. Word filter and reports
The last step. The word filter checks customer-written texts such as list titles, display names and stories for unwanted terms.
- Shipped with it
- 50 terms, from insults to typical spam words, in German and English
- What a hit triggers
- No block. The list lands as a report in the moderation queue, and the decision is made by hand
- Extending
- Under Gift lists → Word filter
- Report link
- Visitors can send an unsuitable list to review themselves
What is still open after the assistant
Masking and uninstall
The one card of the configuration that holds no setting but an action. It sits right
at the bottom under Masking and uninstall.
- Why it exists
- The recipient address is masked at runtime by this plugin. With the plugin gone the protection is gone – and past gift orders would show the giver the real address again
- What the card shows
- How many masked orders still carry the real recipient address. Once none are left it says that all of them are sealed
- The button
- Bake masking in permanently. After that the order holds nothing but the placeholder
- Cannot be undone
- The real address is overwritten and cannot be recovered. That is why it asks first
The assistant points this out itself at the end. Before an uninstall this is the last
step – after it the masking no longer depends on the plugin.
